Wheeler Memorial Library Orange, MA

Constructed between 1912 and 1914, Wheeler Memorial Library was opened to the public on April 17th, 1914. A generous gift from Almira Wheeler Thompson in honor of her late husband, John W. Wheeler, the library commemorates these early pioneers of the Industrial Revolution and embodies the exuberance of the Gilded Age. Having generously served the public for upwards of a century, the library is now in substantial need of improvements.

SSV was engaged to perform a conditions assessment for the building in late 2024. The recently completed study includes detailed analysis of the building's masonry, openings, roof system(s). and interior finishes, as well as considerations for its site and related drainage issues. A comprehensive scope of work for the treatment of deficiencies was also developed and phased according to priority.

The proposed improvements will be carried out pending appropriation of municipal funds for the project.
