The Worcester Telegram and Gazette recently published the news of the re-imagining of the Notre Dame des Canadien's Church Bell in the form of a memorial onto their front page. Hanover has pledged $10,000 to the city to find a new home for the bell, which led to the city's charrette process to memorialize the bell. This bell is one of the "last remnants of the Romanesque Revival stone church" which stood over the Worcester Common. In the recent design event, many people favored displaying the bell in a way to foster reflection of Worcester's history and role of immigrants in the city.
The Worcester Telegram and Gazette highlights a design which envisioned hanging the bell from an open stone structure, which was submitted by Spencer, Sullivan & Vogt. The design process was led by SSV principal/architect Gerry Sullivan, a long-time Central Massachusetts resident who also teaches architectural studio at the College of the Holy Cross.
